The Alan Titchmarsh Show

Wine Expert Helen McGinn

ITV's The Alan Titchmarsh Show

Helen with Duncan from Blue

Bringing a touch of Bacchus to this series of The Alan Titchmarsh Show is wine expert Helen McGinn. Helen spent almost a decade as a wine buyer for a big supermarket, travelling the globe sourcing wines. She then spent the next half a decade pregnant. Now working part-time in the wine industry, she writes a weekly wine blog,

The Knackered Mother’s Wine Club which receives 15,000- 20,000 hits a month and has won numerous awards includingRed Magazine’s Hot Women Awards – Best BloggerInternational Wine & Spirit Competition – Best Blogger and Fortnum & Mason Food & Drink Awards – Online Drinks Writer.

In February 2013, the blog was turned into a book and it is currently the best-selling wine book in the UK, and due to be published in the US by Chronicle Books in 2015.

Helen also writes a weekly wine column for the Daily Mail’s Femail section.

Knackered Mother Helen says: “I am 40 years old, married with three children and I’m really tired. I probably should have washed my hair yesterday, I’ve just noticed there’s dried Weetabix on my t-shirt and I’ve got no idea what I am going to cook tonight. The washing pile is threatening to burst out of the basket, we’ve run out of milk and I think we’ve got people coming at the weekend. I work part-time, the kids are on holiday and did I mention I’m really tired?”

Thursday 24th January 2013 – Gadgets and Chips

Another cracking day in the studio yesterday with the wonderful Donny Osmond and fabulous Clare Balding bringing joy to everyone around. We all wanted a go on the robotic horse, if you missed it, catch up on ITV player.

Today we’re discussing the hot topic of real fur vs fake – and as we know our viewers are avid animal lovers it’s bound to raise a few reactions of differing opinion. Tell us what you think about wearing real fur or people who choose to wear it – is it a personal choice of the fashion conscious, a sensible way to keep warm or a horrible indictment of our treatment of animals in general ? Have your say on our Facebook page but remember to keep it polite, manners cost nothing!

Mel C and Chelsea Healey are also on the show today, talking about their latest challenge for charity, and ex-Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon has an astounding array of gadgets all designed to keep you warm (and all animal friendly). Check them out on our Gadgets tab above.

See you at 3!

Tuesday 22nd January 2013 – Hanging Loose!

Tables are being turned today!  I’m joining the lovely Loose Women in their studio for the show at lunchtime, then they’re popping round mine later to join me at 3pm. A bit like an episode of Neighbours, but without the funny accents.  Anyway I hope they’re nice to me while I’m there or it could be slightly awkward when they reappear on The AT Show.  We are planning on seeing how they would fare as Loose Men. Find out what happens with Sherrie Hewson, Andrea McLean and Sally Lindsay on today’s show, and don’t miss Loose Women first at 12.30pm and check out the show gossip on the Loose Women website.

What are your thoughts on nudity ? Do you remember the naked rambler ? So called because he quit his job as a lorry driver and walked naked from Lands End to John O’Groats ? Well he’s still behind bars which seems a little extreme in a way.  We’ll be discussing the whole issue today with ex-Ladette to Lady Headteacher Jean Broke Smith and guests naturist Martin Bullen and nude model Emma Burton. With 3.7 million naturists in Britain today, we hope a few of them will tune in and watch the debate.

june whitfieldWe’ve known it for years but finally the world is catching on – June Whitfield is on the show today, talking about receiving her “Comedy Legend” award from The Slapstick Festival in Bristol.  Normally we wouldn’t be so indelicate as to discuss a ladies age, but we’re sure she won’t mind us sharing with you that she’s an incredible 88 years old, and looking great on it!  June is adorable and we can’t wait to see her later, hope you’ll join us.

Best,

Alan

Today’s the day!

Monday 21st January 2013 – Series 12, Day 1 of The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

Well the snow hasn’t exactly been kind to us but at least the roads seem clear enough to get everyone to SE1 for their call time. In today’s show we have Philip Schofield and Christine Bleakley joining Alan on the sofa to talk Dancing on Ice.  Our social media feeds are busy – mostly due to the fact that we tweeted that Christine obviously had  a busy day as she was currently broadcasting on Radio 2 with Chris Evans. As soon as we hit send, it was pointed out that actually it wasn’t Christine, but Alex Jones from The One Show.  Sadly it was too late and even Chris read it out on air and had a giggle at our expense – we are still melting snow with our blushes but at least the council has work for us clearing pavements.

Also on today’s show, Benedict Allen, Lisa Riley and the South London Swimming club, talking about extremes of weather – follow Benedict on Twitter at @benedictallen Lisa Riley can be followed at @reallisariley and the swimming club are at @slsclido.

The Final Countdown!

It’s Friday afternoon, the last working day before TX begins on the 12th series of The Alan Titchmarsh Show.  The mood in the production office is positively chirpy.  It could be the fact that most of the team are looking forward to sledging down their local hill tomorrow and have completely forgotten that we have a show to do on Monday, or that the fantastic list of celebrity guests we have lined up has put everyone in a good mood.

So, weather permitting, joining us in the studio next week in no particular order will be Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley talking about Dancing On Ice,  national treasure and comedy legend June Whitfield and sports and Olympic font-of-all knowledge Clare Balding.

Waterloo Road fans will be excited to hear that Chelsee Healy will be joining Mel C to talk about their amazing Comic Relief challenge, and Italian superstar Andrea Bocelli will be giving his first ever UK interview in English.

It’s a truly cosmopolitan mixed bag of delights we have lined up for you – we just need it to stop snowing long enough to dig a trench through to the studios and all will well. Tune in at 3pm on Monday to see whether we managed it or not!

Best
